Where's Ace gone from the current rankings? hasn't he played enough 1500+ players lately?

edit - just checked and thats correct in fact, Ace has to play 13 more games against 1500+ players to re-appear on the ranking list! Has this exposed a flaw in the new system? Perhaps he can't find that many adequate players online enough of the time to play a 1:4 ratio?

not 1/4....... I think someone moved the goal posts?
Maybe it is 1/3?
Who knows.....I do not see any message?

Last I looked my 1500+ games were around 30%.

Unfortunatley I have no time between now and May 6th to play so many games........I have an election to win.

Hi,

after a VERY long discussion we've changed the ratio to 1:2. That means you have to play at least every 3rd game against an adequate opponent.

Ace now needs another few games to be in again.

Best regards
Thorsten

Who, just the top 10 or everyone? I think the ratio is way too high now. Just my opinion...

Samuel, the 1 out of 3 only applies to the top 10. It is 1 out of 4 for everyone else. And I have been vocal in the past about how 1500+ players make up roughly 33% of the players on gravon, though that is not true so far this year but it has been true for the last 3-4 years. Since that is generally true, asking top players to consistently play the better players is fair. I do not think it is too high but I would like to see the 1 out of 3 ratio applied to the top 20.

hi all,

the rules for the challenge ranking are explained at the challenge website:

http://www.gravon.de/gravon/stratego/rating2010.jsp?language=english

and the ratio is for all players - not only the top 10 !!!

i add a table at gravopedia for some further information (top20 players):

The ratio is 1:2 (1 out of 3 games) for ALL players, not only top 10.

This may sound harder than it is:
The lower your rating is, the easier it is to play against an adequate opponent. Imagine someone with a rating of 1200: He may play everyone with at least 1000 to have an adequate opponent. So he has nearly free choice.

So it does not make sense to use a lower ratio for lower rated players. Lower rated players should have no problem maintaining a 1:2 ratio.

@Samuel: Your ratio currently is close to 1:1 so why do you think 1:2 is too hard?

Best regards
Thorsten

Be careful what you wish for...

Maybe it should be reverted back to a 1:4 ratio then?

I never said anything about 34% of games above 1500.

To my mind 20 or 25% is enough to make any player, play a sufficient amount of opponents above 1500.

Currently we have only 24% of players above 1500.......and several of those players just refuse my games which reduces this down to less than 20%.

Surely the whole point was to remove the advantage of players who AVOID playing players of similar strength?
20 or 25 % does this task......anything above is OVERKILL!!!!

What result has it had on me? Simple.....I have had to decline several games because these players are TOO LOW.

ok....so the result is I play less here!

Hey Ace, it's easy man. This system is really a cakewalk. All you gotta do is have a 4 or 5 game marathon with GB, NC, PW, Zach or anyone else above 1500. I adore this new system. I feel like I see the true champs at the top. Anyone who wants to challenge them can do.

To be fair it looks like he's waiting to play gpet0 at the moment, but gpet is waiting for some loser who ran off to run out of time. Though its not a ranking game...

Yes well I think that Ace should not fear losing a few games. I saw NC sitting on a game while Ace was in the room. OK now totally possible that Ace was having a smoke or away from puter but NC was there sitting waiting for a game almost begging Ace to join. Saw same with GB a week or so back. I'm going to try like all hell to get myself above 1500 (not ez for me), and then if Ace wants a few adeq games with me, I'm there for the dude
